As the years progress and I become "older" I know with full certainty that my father was right that one day so long ago when we were having a beer and a smoke in his back yard.
This is what he said:
"Mija, you know what I've learned now that I'm goddamn sixty years old?" and I said, "What?"
I was holding my breath waiting for some words of wisdom that would open up my world and give me some kind of answers about the secrets to life.
Then he looks at me and smiles and says, "I still don't know shit!"
We had a grand ole laugh over that.
That's my dad.
The wise guy.
My mentor.
He who speaks his mind and the truth.
